FAQ

1. What's this all about?

"Mutant Minx Meltdown - Rise of the Monster Girls" is a text based RPG, slowly having graphics added to it, and it's made using Renpy. It mixes elements of survival horror with erotica - it's intended overall theme is to be that of a cheesy, campy horror-comedy b-movie, or a trashy pulp horror novel from the 1980's. In the game you play a male survivor, trying to get along as best he can on an isolated island which has been quarantined after a mysterious outbreak has infected all the women. Initially, the situation seems similar to a zombie outbreak, but with the infected hungering for something other than brains, and no one being dead. As the days go by, the infectees begin mutating, and things get weirder.

2. What won't be in the game?

Quite a few thing, for a slew of reasons both legal and personal.

The big No List is - No characters under the age of 18, no incest, no bestiality (anthro characters are fine), no necrophilia, no scat, no gore, no vore.

On top of that, there's no "harsh" violence, particularily towards npcs. This is a little hard to define, but the basic deal is that there'll be no real offensive weapons or attacks - no knives, no cudgels. Since the npcs all begin as everyday people, being able to attack them in such a way would be... kind of weird. The bad kind of weird. Because of this, your arsenal is limited to saucepan lids, dustbin lids, riot shields and the like. Yes, some other characters in the game have guns and things, but that's just for atmosphere.

3. Is the game finished?

It can be played through to the end of the 40 day period, but there are many quest arcs, NPC's and features still to be added. However, there is still a fair amount of content already in there, and having it in open development like this allows me to take suggestions and make changes and additions as we go.

4. Can I help you write the game?

Quite possibly. Check out the following though.

“By submitting content to SeldomPie for addition to  Mutant Minx Meltdown - Rise of the Monster Girls, I agree to give up any and all creative and legal control over how the characters and events from my submissions are used within the confines of the game, its graphics, and any sequels. I retain all rights to said characters and events outside of their usage in these games.”

Also, I am under no obligation to put your content in the game. If I feel it does not fit, or skirts dangerously close to the banned-list, or object for any other reason, it's not going in there. Best practice would probably be to shoot me an email before you put any serious work in, outlining what you have in mind.

5. I get nothing but a black screen when I launch the game!

You're not alone -  several people reported this, but I've been unable to work out why it happens to some people. A lovely guy called Zarin messaged me to tell me this had happened to him, and a solution he found. I have not had this issue, so I cannot vouch to this working. If it screws things up or makes your computer or loved ones explode, it is not my fault. Anyway, her is Zarins explanation. Cheers Zarin.

Hey, I downloaded your game, which is fantastic by the way, but encountered a problem when I first had it. I unzipped it fine, and the .exe booted with no problems, but all I had was a black window with no text or discernible options. After reinstalling Direct X and several other random stupid things, I actually found a solution for the problem, and I thought you may want to post it. I've seen a few people in the comments on your blog with the same issue I think.

First, you make a text file in the same directory as the MMwhatever.exe The text file has to be called Environment.txt

Second, you add the line RENPY_GL_ENVIRON="fixed" to the text file, and save it

Bam, problem solved. Not bad for someone with no programming experience eh?

6. I can't unzip the zip file!

Hells teeth, but we've had some problems with this. It seems every zipper we tried was causing issues for some one, and since renpy zips things automatically, just unzipping them to re compile sometimes caused issues.

Currently we offer a .rar zip of the windows, linux and mac version, and a 7zip version of just the windows version - re-zipping the mac or linux versions seemed to break them. This is the best we can offer at the moment, sorry.

7. Will you add the option to play as a girl?

Almost certainly not. I've nothing against the idea, but it'd mean re-writing almost every encounter, and there's more than 50 already. It'd honestly be easier to write a new game that was taylored to having a female PC than to adapt this one - every bit of test and even a lot of the mechanics are based around the player being male. I should have thought of it when I started, but I didn't, and we are where we are.

8. Will you add a toggle to turn stuff I don't like off?

Probably not. The risk is part of the games concept, I think. It shouldn't be too hard to avoid the enemies you don't like.

9. Who draws the graphics? Will there be more graphics?

Our chief character artist is the awesome Sharoman. Sharoman, however, is a busy bee. If you've got you some art skills and would like to help the project, we'd love a dedicated background artist - please contact seldompie at the email address on the side bar.  If you'd like to see a particular enemy illustrated, contact Seldompie or Sharoman, and we can talks.
Other artists who have contributed are Adler, who drew the Quiet Girls and Scorpion Girl, and me, that is SeldomPie. I drew the crappy title card and the growing red creeper growth indicator thing.

10. Can I save Selena/get the books for her from the library?

You can get her book, but not save her yet, but you'll be able to in future builds.

11. How come the player character sometimes doesn't know what time it is, and other times the game mentions him checking his watch for the time?

His watch is clockwork, and sometimes he forgets to wind it.

12. When is the game set?

A kind of non-specific recent-ish past. Mobile phones don't seem to be a thing, and there's no mention of the internet, and you find VHS tapes instead of DVD's or whatever. There's Energy Drinks though, and I don't think they were a thing until the 2000's. And there's probably some anachronistis references to more recent stuff. So maybe the island is just behind the times, I guess.

13. Where is the game set?

In a little currently nameless village on a little currently nameless island somewhere off the coast of the United Kingdom. It's probably off the West Coast, above Ireland, so that Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland are all in spitting distance. Nothing is set in stone yet though.

14. Where the hell did you vanish to for two years?

The Land of Bad Things.  A few more details here.

Are you using 7zip? For some reason, it dosen't seem to like the way Renpy compresses files for some reason. You could use a different unzipper, or someone came up with a solution but I can't remember where. I'll try to hunt it down for you and post it in the FAQ.

If that's not your problem, just unzip the file you download, and double click on the MMMRMG006.exe file.

If you're trying to run this on a mac, this version won't work. Renpy can make mac versions though, I'll upload one for the next build.

I'm using winRAR, the unzip gone well but there is a DLL error when I launch the game (PYTHON26.DLL)

I used 7zip, didn't see an .exe, so I went into the game folder. Didn't see anything I could use to run to program so I came here. Then I decided to check out the main folder one more time and it was magically there.

There seems to be a problem where once I open the game all it does is show a black screen, and nothing happens.

I've updated the FAQ with a possible solution to this, though I'm still not sure what causes it.

Hi. I recently downloaded your game. I can play for about 2-4 minutes. I had updated DirectX. I think I had gotten the all in one version by accident. Downloaded the other version. Still having the same issue. I created the .txt file restarted the MMMRMG Game. This time I couldn't explore.. at all. I REALLY want to play this game. (Fenoxo sent me here) and I know I can play games like this. I don't know if it's my machine, or a programming error.

Thank you, SeldomPie

In case you ever read it, Energy Drinks were invented in East Asia around World War 2.
